A Birthday to Remember: Top 5 at the Black Tech Saturdays Community Pitch Challenge
When Purpose Meets Opportunity
On July 22, 2025, I experienced one of those rare moments when everything aligns perfectly. Not only was it my birthday, but I also had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 5 X 1k Pitch Competition hosted by Black Tech Saturdays. Little did I know this day would become a defining moment for Creator Connect and a powerful reminder of why I do what I do.
Setting the Stage: More Than Just a Competition
The day began with an energizing Sound Bath Reset that immediately set a tone of mindfulness and intention. This wasn't your typical startup pitch event—it was a community gathering that prioritized mental wellness alongside entrepreneurial ambition.
Following the sound bath, we dove into a collaborative coworking session that brought together some of the brightest minds, innovators, and dreamers in the city. The energy was palpable as founders, creators, and supporters shared ideas, made connections, and built the foundation for what would become an unforgettable pitch competition.
The Ultimate Test: One Minute, No Slides, Pure Passion
The 5x1 Community Pitch Challenge presented a unique format that stripped away all the traditional startup pitch conventions. No PowerPoint presentations, no clickers, no elaborate slide decks—just one minute to share your vision using nothing but your voice and passion.
Thirty founders stepped up to the challenge, each bringing their unique solution to the stage. The diversity of ideas was incredible, ranging from innovative tech solutions to community-driven platforms. But what made this competition truly special was that the community itself would decide the winners.
The Power of Authentic Storytelling
In that single minute, I shared the vision behind Creator Connect—our mission to bridge the gap between creators and meaningful opportunities, to build a platform where talent meets purpose, and where creative professionals can thrive in an ecosystem designed for their success.
Without slides to fall back on, I had to rely on authentic storytelling and genuine passion for the problem we're solving. Sometimes the most powerful presentations happen when you strip away everything except the core message that drives you.
Community Recognition: Top 5 Placement
Out of thirty incredible pitches, the community selected five founders to receive $1,000 each and recognition for their powerful ideas. Creator Connect placed in the Top 5.
To have our vision resonate so strongly with a room full of entrepreneurs, creators, and community leaders—and on my birthday, no less—was absolutely surreal. This wasn't just validation from judges or investors; this was recognition from peers who understand the challenges we're all facing in building meaningful businesses.
Why This Moment Matters
Moments like this are exactly why I continue to build. They serve as powerful reminders that when you're truly aligned with your purpose, people can feel that authenticity. When you're bold enough to speak your vision out loud, opportunities have a way of meeting you exactly where you are.
The $1,000 funding is significant, but the real value lies in the community support and validation. It's proof that Creator Connect isn't just solving a problem I've identified—it's addressing a need that resonates with creators and entrepreneurs across our ecosystem.
The Power of Community-Driven Innovation
What made this competition unique wasn't just the format—it was the community-first approach. Black Tech Saturdays has created something special: a platform where innovation meets inclusivity, where diverse voices are amplified, and where the community itself drives recognition and support.
This model represents the future of how we should be supporting entrepreneurs, especially those from underrepresented communities. When the community has a voice in deciding which ideas deserve support, you get outcomes that truly reflect what people need and want.
Looking Forward: This Is Only the Beginning
As I reflect on this experience, I'm filled with gratitude and renewed determination. Massive thanks to the Black Tech Saturdays team for creating this platform and fostering an environment where bold ideas can flourish. Thanks to everyone who showed up, listened, and voted—your support means everything.
But this Top 5 placement is just the beginning. It's validation that we're on the right track with Creator Connect, and it's fuel for the work ahead. We're building something that matters, something that will create real opportunities for creators and transform how the creative economy operates.
Key Takeaways for Fellow Entrepreneurs
If you're building something meaningful, here are the lessons I'm taking from this experience:
- Authenticity trumps polish: Sometimes your most powerful pitch happens when you strip away everything except your core passion
- Community validation matters: Recognition from peers who understand your challenges can be more valuable than investor approval
- Purpose-driven businesses resonate: When you're solving a real problem that people care about, that passion is contagious
- Timing and preparation intersect: Opportunities find you when you're consistently building and ready to seize the moment
